This webinar reviews the latest evidence in injury prevalence in sport, injury prevention, and management of the shoulder complex, elbow, and spine (related to mobility) and gives the clinician the tools necessary for immediate intervention. Clinicians will see case study application(s) of a new cutting-edge evaluative paradigm that combines physical therapy and yoga (medical therapeutic yoga) for achieving safer physiological spinal motion and overall health in both medical and wellness based settings.
The biopsychosocial model assists in designing programs for both pathophysiology and prevention based and is supported by the World Health Organization and validated in numerous studies. The course also takes spinal kinematic theory and evolves yoga for increased clinical efficacy and safety.
This webinar is offered is 4 contact hours in length (check your state’s approval status in the state specific course catalog for your profession) through Home CEU or 3 contact hours in length through Allied Health Education. See the course outline at the bottom of this page for a review of this module.
Clinical Objectives
- Identify two Medical Therapeutic Yoga pre-postures that allow for concurrent evaluation and therapeutic intervention in shoulder rehabilitation.
- Recognize the Medical Therapeutic Yoga Pre-Posture that can be used to evaluate upper quarter neural tension.
- List 12 postures and their symbiotic effect on spinal functional mobility, gastrointestinal motility, and overall health.
- Recognize how spinal kinematics affect and refine yoga posture prescription for rehabilitation.
- Identify the epidemiology of, and two risk factors for, epicondylitis based on the latest evidence in order to understand how Medical Therapeutic Yoga can be used for elbow injury prevention.
- Identify conventional epicondylitis medical management within the therapeutic paradigm of Medical Therapeutic Yoga.
- List three contraindicated yoga postures in the acute phase of epicondylitis.
