Yoga as Medicine II (Module 14) – Spring 2019

March 9, 2019 - March 15, 2019

Module 14 is the second of three on-site intensives which allows students to assimilate and apply objectives from Modules 1-7, 8, and 10.  Module 14, through the following objectives, allows clinicians to learn new modifications of the yoga postures, breathing techniques, and sequencing. Teaching methodology, sequencing, evaluation and case study practicums, and principles of functional medicine, including pertinent labs and functional nutrition assessment and intervention is included at this level.  In addition, the biomechanics of spinal motion are studied as they relate to therapeutic practice and prescription, including 30 new yoga postures and progressive techniques in breathing and meditation. Perhaps the most critical piece of this module is learning about the intersectionality of GI, psychological, and orthopaedic health through the lens of functional medicine.

16. Explain how learning style models affect intervention in medical therapeutic yoga.

17. Explain how application of non-dogmatic yogic philosophy and the yogic seal can facilitate growth in personal and professional development.

18. Recognize the importance of differential diagnosis in MTY practice.

19. Experience how positional changes of internal anatomy affect posture prescription.

20. Demonstrate proficiency at teaching sequences in your clinical area of expertise using appropriate language and dialogue.

21. Experience meditation practices to develop skills in support of mindfulness practice.

22. Understand the difference between MTY yoga postures and historically practiced postures.

23. Experience how evidence-based biomechanical and kinematic study of spinal flexion and rotation evolve yoga postures to improve safety and clinical efficacy.

24. Experience how lower quarter alignment and motor control execution in yoga posture prescription affect overall mind-body outcomes.

25. Safely sequence and teach yoga prescriptions in realtime clinical environment(s) with your peers, using appropriate east/west medical terminology, evidence based rationale, and MTY methods.

26. Safety prescribe and teach yoga prescription in oral practical setting with your peers.
