Rodale Press has just released a succinct list of 14 foods you should never eat, and I think it is the best list I have ever seen (so far). Although the EWG (Environmental Working Group) just released the official 2013 Dirty Dozen foods and Clean 15 Foods, they fail to address GMO’s (genetically modified foods) and their health risks. As a result, corn ended up on their Clean 15 list, which is unfortunate since corn is not only genetically modified in the US, but heavily sprayed with pesticides.
Although I counsel patients to refer to the Dirty Dozen list, I have to also give a separate warning on not eating GMO. So this new Rodale Press list of 14 foods you should never eat is the most comprehensive I’ve seen so far. The best we have for now is to avoid the Dirty Dozen, heed the list of 14 foods you should never eat (which finally acknowledged the plethora of harms by eating ANY fast food), and avoid GMO food listed on the Clean 15 list.

What’s the one food you refuse to eat? Peas, tofu, liver and onions? Whatever it is, it’s probably because you don’t like the way it tastes, not necessarily because it contains ingredients suspected of causing cancer or because it was picked by farmers wearing Hazmat suits. Yet, there are still a lot of those foods on store shelves, and food-industry insiders, who know what goes on behind the scenes, refuse to eat them. We polled some of those insiders—people who know the business and work daily to evict pesticides, genetically modified organisms, animal cruelty, social injustice, and unhealthy foods from the food supply—to find out what they know about the dark side of “convenience” foods and what they will eat.
